The Daily Mail's Little Pocket of Sexism

Good day. As we all know, the Daily Mail have been in the shite this week after criticising the Trussell Trust on Easter Sunday by saying there are people cheating the system (including the reporter) when it comes to collecting food parcels so naturally they are in my bad books this week. This event has since become part of the very, very long list of articles to go on the 'Timeline of Shame' that highlights how much of a terrible publication The Daily Mail is.
As I have had enough of revision and coursework for the time being, I decided tolook on the Daily Mail's "wonderful" website, out of curiosity, to see what could annoy me quickest. I was annoyed in less than 5 seconds...

This, is the most awful thing I have ever seen on a newspaper's website. I don't really think that they could be any more patronising and degrading... a section of a national newspaper for women - WHHHYYY??!! The section offers high quality articles such as these:

which in themselves are articles which will appeal to a certain audience who, going by common stereotypes, probably read the Daily Mail anyway. What annoys me so much about it is the fact that it is sectioned off from the rest just shows how much of a problem everyday sexism is today.

The fact that "the women's stuff" is put into its own little tab suggests that the rest of the website/paper is not meant for them and that they are somehow inferior to men who have the rest of the website to explore at leisure. Also, the "Femail" section of the website stereotypes the everyday woman horribly... it assumes that we all want to hear about Kate Middleton's dresses and a £230 face cream because as women, we are so shallow that we only care about how pretty thing look and not about things that are actually happening in the world.

It is understandable that the DM are trying to widen their audience by trying to mimic the kinds of articles you'd find in a women's magazine with a more Middling twist but please, the whole page suggests that women are still meant to be the women they were in the 50s and get pleasure out of cooking and cleaning with its articles on the obscurity of men cleaning and adverts for FAIRY. In an age where we all meant to be equal as individuals, this should not be happening. A woman should be able to read an article on David Cameron as a man should be able to read an article on face cream without feeling that they are out of place.
